It's the same thing many others here are discussing, i.e., the small black flea-looking type bug that hides in carpeting and everywhere else it seems. I have noticed this insect in my carpeting and then it invariably winds up in my nylon pantyhose (or knee-hi's). You described it PERFECTLY. It looks like a tiny ball of lint, but when you pull it the hole appears in your clothes. This is driving me bonkers. One thing no one has mentioned yet (I don't think): 1. They also live in your shoes (lift up the insole padding and you will prob. find some hiding in there); 2. NEVER buy throw rugs without inspecting underneath the mats for these insects. That's how they hitchhiked into my house, I'm sure of it.
