Swarms of tiny white bugs everywhere!

These little creatures are all over one of the bedrooms in the house. They seem to be congregating in a single large dresser in my sister's room, and she found them completely encrusting a piece of candy she had left in a drawer just a day ago. Leaving sweet stuff around seems to attract them...

From what I can see, they may be some sort of mite, but they're too small for a leg count. I used a 20x magnification lens and could barely make out a small white creature with several bristle like hairs on it's abdomen.

They seem to be increasing in their numbers, and using common pest control methods such as soapy water and sprays doesn't seem to be impacting their numbers...
